Regents Road is drawn in green. Its north end begins at Genesee, and it soon becomes a 4-lane highway (2 lanes, plus bike lane, in each direction). It bisects University City, meeting and continuing past La Jolla Village Drive, and terminating at Rose Canyon. It resumes on the south side of Rose Canyon, crosses Governor Drive, and provides connections to SR-52 at San Clemente Canyon. South of 52, Regents Road ascends the hill entering the adjacent community of Clairemont.

The missing link in all of this is the Regents Road bridge (shown in red). This bridge has been an integral part of the University City community plan for many years.

It is easy to see how a completed Regents Road could facilitate rapid access to our community,  giving an alternate access route to various freeways, including I-5 and I-805, as well as to Clairemont, for fire services, ambulances, etc. (see a letter from San Diego Fire Chief Jeff Bowman, here).

Consider, too, how the lack of a bridge prevents rapid evacuation of our community in the event of an emergency such as the Cedar fire.
